Eccellent on Flavius Josephus: The upshot of his analysis is that we may have to rethink a key line. In the traditional Testimonium Flavianum, the statement “He was the Christ” is the giveaway, so it was thought, that this couldn’t have been written by a non-Christian Jew like Josephus. The expression “a (mere) wise man” earlier in the paragraph fits Josephus’s likely view, but a declaration of messianic identity is out of place. But Schmidt notes that Latin and Syriac manuscripts of this passage don’t have the clear affirmation “He was the Christ” but instead the more doubtful “He was believed to be [Latin] / thought to be [Syriac] the Christ.” Given the early date of these renditions—AD 300s—and the unlikelihood that any Latin or Syriac Christian copyist would demote Jesus, it seems reasonable to conclude this was what Josephus wrote. In the Greek copying tradition, a single verb (legomenos, “called,” perhaps) appears to have dropped out, either by accident or intent.
Long before Dachau or the gulag, revolutionary France created a system designed to make Catholic priests die “without noise.” Near Île-Madame, 829 priests were starved and tortured on prison ships—then erased from history. This is the forgotten story of their martyrdom, faith, and astonishing forgiveness

Kompliment aus dem falschen Mund: Die Männer, die Papst Leo XIV. zu Bischöfen macht, sind nach Meinung des emeritierten Bischofs von Münster "wirklich Hirten".
Introduction The first words of a new pope are always read for signals. Pope Leo XIV told the cardinals plainly in his first address to the College, “I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Pope Francis masterfully and concretely set it forth in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium.” Pope Leo praised his predecessor for being “a humble servant of God and of his brothers and sisters,” and called on the Cardinals to “take up this precious legacy and continue on the journey,” expanding on several fundamental points from the late pope’s exhortation: “the return to the primacy of Christ in proclamation (cf. No. 11); the missionary conversion of the entire Christian community (cf. No. 9); growth in collegiality and synodality (cf. No. 33); attention to the sensus fidei (cf. Nos. 119-120), especially in its most authentic and inclusive forms, such …
Nigerian police have CONFIRMED that 177 Christians were KIDNAPPED from their churches last weekend .The confirmation comes after the police originally DENIED that the kidnappings had occurred. They have since denied the denial, calling it a 'measured response'

(epd)
2 priests attacked in Nigeria Editor's Note: Armed bandits broke into a Nigerian parish residence at 2:30 AM yesterday and attacked two priests, the Lagos-based Vanguard reported. One of the priests, Father Chris Pever, underwent surgery after suffering an arm fracture. The attack took place in Mararaba, a town in Nasarawa State.
The article argues that Christmas cannot be separated from the Cross. Bishop Joseph E. Strickland emphasizes that the joy of Christ’s birth is real and profound, but it is not sentimental or comfortable—it already contains the reality of sacrifice, suffering, and redemption. Jesus did not come to make life easier, but to save humanity, and salvation always has a cost. By reflecting on figures like Saint Stephen, Saint John, and the Holy Innocents, the article shows that from the very beginning, Christ’s coming provoked sacrifice, fidelity, and even martyrdom. Their lives reveal that true Christian joy is not avoidance of suffering but faithfulness to Christ, even when it demands everything. Strickland warns that modern Christianity is tempted to soften or avoid the Cross in favor of comfort, consensus, or emotional reassurance. But when the Cross is removed, faith becomes shallow and powerless. True Christmas joy flows from accepting the full meaning of the Incarnation: following …More
The Lord is Nigh 1. "This day you shall know that the Lord will come and save us, and in the morning you shall see His glory." The motif of the liturgy of the day is expectation. Tomorrow is to be the day of fulfillment. 2. Tomorrow you shall see His glory with your bodily eyes, in reality and truth. "You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger" (Luke 2:12). Near His crib, in silent prayer and adoration, you will find His virgin mother. There, too, you will find, silent and absorbed in prayer, the blessed Joseph. Silent night, holy night! There you will find the child, nestling in the forbidding straw, deprived of all comforts which an ungrateful people might have given Him. "He came unto His own, and His own received Him not" (John 1: 11). We shall see Him also with the eyes of faith. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw His glory, the glory as it …More
Fri Dec 12, 2025 - 3:56 pm EST (LifeSiteNews) — A priest in the Cathedral of San Isidro in Argentina blessed two lesbian women dressed as brides, a traditional missionary priest reported. “In the chapel where the Tabernacle is, at 6.15 pm, there was a blessing of two lesbian women dressed as brides,” Father Joao Silveira shared on Twitter. Yesterday in the Cathedral of Buenos Aires: “In the chapel where the Tabernacle is, at 6.15 pm, there was a blessing of two lesbian women dressed as brides. I told the priest: One thing is accompaniment, but we can’t consent to sin, much less bless it. He replied: It’s pastoral.” — Father João Silveira (@joaosilveiraaa) December 11, 2025 “I told the priest: ‘One thing is accompaniment, but we can’t consent to sin, much less bless it.’ He replied, ‘It’s pastoral,’” Fr. Silveira said. He did not identify the priest who gave the blessing. “Heartbreaking. This Pastor is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He needs catechism 101 and sent on a retreat for …
What happens when a person converts from one religion to another, or abandons religion altogether? A major new report charts exactly this, and a big finding is that “Conversion into Christianity appears to provide meaning, coherence, and social integration, whilst leaving the faith often coincides with disorientation and emotional decline.” This stands to reason. When a person converts to a religion, in this case Christianity, a major reason is that they are seeking meaning. But when a person leaves Christianity for atheism or agnosticism, neither will offer the same sense of meaning or community as religion. “The Changing Landscape of Faith in Britain: Rebirth, Renewal and Reimagining” report by the Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life, focuses on those who have changed their religious identity in Britain. As mentioned, this can involve leaving religion altogether or switching to a new one. A total of 2,774 adults who self-identified as having experienced a change in their …
Archbishop Emeritus of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has declared that the Federal Government is fully aware of those responsible for the ongoing killings across Nigeria, insisting there is no longer any justification for inaction as insecurity worsens nationwide.
The Cardinal urged the government to “name, shame and deal with” all those supporting or financing terrorism in the country, saying impunity has emboldened attackers who “are killing and getting away with it.”
...a mother and her little daughter, both stricken by the plague, [were] trapped in a house whose door had been sealed. Without hesitation, the scion of the illustrious Borromeo family used a ladder to climb through an upstairs window into the room where the two lay. The mother was dead. After praying for her soul, the Cardinal descended the ladder holding the child tightly in his arms. The child survived. Deeply moved by this incredible act, Manning rightly exclaimed: “A deed worthy of a picture.”
A new wave of anti-Catholic violence struck Nigeria on November 17, when armed men attacked St. Stephen’s Parish in Kaduna State. They kidnapped parish priest Father Bobbo Paschal along with an unspecified number of parishioners. During the assault, the attackers also killed Gideon Markus, brother of Father Anthony Yero, according to the Archdiocese of Kaduna.

Leo XIV is expected to be asked to resolve one of the longest-standing consequences of the Reformation by formally designating St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Dublin as the city’s official Catholic cathedral.
Too bad that most (not all) Catholics in Ireland now no longer believe in anything. They will still demand all the bells and whistles though = hatched, matched and dispatched. They voted in large numbers for "same-sex marriage" and abortion and have to date killed 50,000+ unborn Irish babies. In the meantime the Bishops are busy pushing synodality bulls~~t!
A Catholic majority country has its Catholic Cathedrals stolen from it. The Catholic populace is relegated to a temporary building constructed during penal times when practicing Catholicism was persecuted by the minority Protestant fat cats. The Church of Ireland is a false and irrelevant church of land rewarded apostate landlords. Down with tyrants! Who has the Book of Kells? A Catholic treasure. You guessed it. The Church of Ireland who expropriated it ( euphemism for ‘stole’). The English genocided the Irish during the Potato Famine by exporting out Ireland all cattle and beef. What was left? A few blighted, moldy potatoes. Would Sunni Muslims stand for the Shia taking over Mecca, Medina and the Grand Mosque in Jerusalem? Hell no! Irish Catholics put up with blood thirsty tyrants stealing everything that they could get their hands on, while savagely persecuting the Church back into the catacombs ie, Mass Rock, St. Oliver Plunket, Bishop and Martyr, pray for us! vs. Sir Oliver Plunkett …More
