Following the tragic passing of Br Ignatius Maria on 12 April 2026, at last his body was returned to Papa Stronsay a month later to the day, 12 May 2026. Two of his brothers, Brother Francisco and Brother Aiden made the journey involving two ferries to receive his body from the undertaker on the Scottish mainland, and then made the journey back to Papa Stronsay with him one last time. His parents and confreres met him on the Stronsay pier, and accompanied him on his final crossing to the Island he loved so much.
Following the tragic passing of Br Ignatius Maria, on 13 May 2026 his body was committed to the grave on the the Monastery-Island of Papa Stronsay, which had been his home. He is deeply missed by us all. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Lightning Storm.
There was an impressive storm a few nights ago which woke me in the middle of the night and prevented me from getting back to sleep, so I got our camera out and took some video and photos. There were quite a few smaller flashes that the camera did not pick up. There are also photos on our Facebook page.

Immaculate Conception Storm 2011
On December 8th 2011, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Orkney was hit by another huge storm. The top wind speed was measured at 138.5 mph. This video was taken out of the window of St. Magnus Priory on Stronsay, facing the pier. Although it looks like it's raining, none of the water is rain; it's all sea water!
Storm.
Sunday 27th November saw a great storm in Orkney. This video was taken outside our chapel on the island of Stronsay. The wind turbines on mainland Orkney reportedly measured gusts of up to 130 mph! This video accompanies the following post on our blog:papastronsay.blogspot.com/2011/11/magnificent-storm.html
Releasing the Bees.
Papa Stronsay’s large greenhouse is a great blessing for our community, but much of the pollinating has to be done by hand, which is quite a task! Therefore, we have put a hive of bumblebees into the greenhouse to see if they can help us out a bit. We got the bees from Buzz Organics who are an excellent company. Why not check out their site if you’re after something for your garden/greenhouse?
