Transalpine Redemptorists Become Sedevacantists: "No Recognition of Leo XIV"

The Transalpine Redemptorist community has proclaimed itself sedevacantist. In a letter dated 2 May, they wrote: "The pre-Vatican II popes condemned indifferentism as a deadly heresy. The post-Vatican II claimants to the papacy have embraced it, promoted it and acted upon it."
The group has three monasteries. The community's mother house is located in Papa Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland. They also have a house in the Diocese of Christchurch, New Zealand, and a pioneer community in the Diocese of Great Falls–Billings, Montana, USA.
In 2008, they broke away from the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X in order to obtain regularisation from the Vatican, they were then invited by diocesan bishops to establish priories in New Zealand and Montana. Critics accuse the community of fostering a personality cult surrounding the two leading priests.
In their new letter, signed by all the members, they state that "the modernist presence within the structures and hierarchy of the official Church has gone …More

Unfortunately, their statement (in spite of many precious remarks and quotations, and in spite of their courage amidst the present standard of "dumb dog") is somewhat absurd. They call for the "imperfect council" to judge the matter of post-conciliar popes and pronounce canonical judgement on Prevost but at the same time they want to see at the council only those who have already judged the above claiming that - starting from Montini up to Prevost - there was no pope. Thus, it would be the council of the matter already judged.
Second thing is a quite grotesque perception of the Petrine office i.e. Pope never errs, also in questions of discipline, so you cannot resist him in any matter - all you can do is... just proclaim that he is no Pope at all.
Third is the question of distinctions between heresy and proposal close to heresy or one that favors heresy or error - only heresy (public and notorious) excludes from the Church (thus the Petrine Office), the error does not.

And formal heresy has to be judged by someone with that authority....aside from Christ who can judge the pope?

V.R.S.

@123jussi
The Church i.e. bishops. In case of formal heresy we are talking about the ex-pope so the Church can pronounce judgement against him. Bellarmine says that in case of suspicion of schism or heresy on the side of the pope the so-called imperfect council is a good idea.

123jussi

Where did you get that from? Some form of private revelation ? Who made Bellarmine the boss in this matter? Bellarmine has no more authority in the matter than I do!

V.R.S.

Bellarmine is the Doctor of the Church and you are not. As for losing the office ipso facto also other theologians e.g. Juan de Torquemada, Alphonse Liguori say so.
An alternative opinion (ofCajetan, John of St. Thomas) says that the pope has to be deposed (by a declaratory sentence) also indicating the council convoked by the authority of the Church as the way of doing it.
Suarez says that Christ himself deposes the pope as soon as the Church declares his heresy.

So is the Little Flower ...so what? 100 opinions do not grant authority ,they just add up to an opinion .

" So is the Little Flower"

Oh, yes ;) In the post-conciliar meaning of John Paul II.

Even Jesus told His pope designate, "Get behind me, Satan!" when Peter was slipping into a worldly mentality. Peter's most recent successors appear to deserve no less a rebuke.

There is a very good argument that they were and are bad popes but popes they are. The idea that if a pope is bad he is no longer pope is really very silly.

There is a very good argument to be made that Leo is not the pope. He sure doesn't act like it or teach like it. One day, Holy Mother the Church will make a determination

Their outreach to traditional Catholics through their publishing ministry has been the finest I've ever seen. I have a treasured collection of "The Catholic" newspapers and books from The Desert Will Flower Press. May God reward them for their years of faithful service and protect them in this time of temptation. 🙏 🙏

Sad...so very sad. Come back to thine Holy Mother, my dear Brethren. Forsake thy rebellion and cleave unto thine Holy Mother.
