Una Voce Blames FSSPX of "Throwing a Hand Grenade" in Roman Rite Negotiations
"We’ve waited patiently for Pope Leo XIV to consider relaxing Latin Mass restrictions — the FSSPX has now thrown a hand grenade into this," said Joseph Shaw, President of Una Voce International at a symposium in London on February 12.
He fears that the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X (FSSPX) and diocesan Catholics of the Roman rite are being “lumped together”.
Talking to OsvNews.com on February 16, Shaw dreamed of “quiet and subtle, but rapid” concession on the Roman rite by Pope Leo XIV.
He blamed the FSSPX’s move to harden attitudes among some bishops and cardinals, who could now view all Catholics of the Roman rite as “tainted with disapproval.”
“We’re not looking for any kind of victory, just to be allowed to remain a tiny part of the Church, contributing in our own way”, he said.
But: “From my weekly dealings with our bishops, however, I haven’t sadly detected any softening in official positions.”
Since May, there was no indication that Leo XIV would loosen restriction on …More
Leo has a quiet charm and a distinct talent for using it to keep people distracted while he does the most outrageous things only inches away. At least with Francis it was always obvious what he was up to.
they have a spine of a wet noodle Our Lord never backed down to the Phereses truth sets us free . When we are in Apostasy choose this day whom you serve no compromise.
Una Voce casts blame on the wrong entity. It is Pope Leo XIV who has rigidly rejected The Latin Mass. The FSSPX is just one Catholic group pushing the issue. Let's hope the FSSPX succeeds in liberating Latin Rites from anti-Catholic restrictions.
Nonsense. This uncertainty has been going on for years. SSPX has made several attempts of reconciling with Rome but the modernists, progressive wing has rejected any movement toward reconciliation.
The "modernists, progressive wing" is an outdated terminology. It is "obviously heretical" that fits better these days of ours.
There must be, then, some certain reason why sspx simply can't reconciliate with those who suppose to be the representatives of Rome.
The bad thing is that sspx leaders of these days from some reason don't see the obvious.
It's not often I conclude this about individuals who head up international Catholic organizations, but this character Joseph Shaw is either a closet Modernist or a very unintelligent man.
Does he really believe that the FSSPX issue is simply about the TLM? Is he not aware that Archbishop Lefebvre and the Society have opposed all of the heretical and false teachings of the Council since the FSSPX was established and that Vatican II is the issue that divides the Conciliarists and the FSSPX?
Even a school child understands that the TLM is almost an aside with the Pope and the Conciliarists. Certainly they want to suppress it, but that's an issue they can deal with at any time. Indeed, if they could make the FSSPX go away (which they won't), the FSSP would be ordered to cease and desist celebrating the TLM almost immediately.
I had heard on Una Voce in the past, but I never realized what an incompetent (or evil) leader they had until now.
It is, to those who are not in clerical state, odd that Pope Leo and the Curia don't seek compromise. Certainly, if the Church can be "already one" with the Anglicans and have fraternity with Muslims, it can accept the rite used for ages. From the inside, however, it has nothing to do with the rite. The Ecclasia Dei communities are permitted to say the exact same mass to this day. It is something else. The difference is Theology. The Ecclasia Dei communities are required to say, "Go where you will with faith and morals as long as I can have my missal."
The SSPX says the reverse, "The missal is the most visible sign, but it is the faith and morals we will cling to." Even as dulled as a modernist mind is, they recognize that in saying that, the SSPX is saying, "Any other path, including your path, is unfaithful and immoral." The Hierarchy knows that to compromise even a dot or a tilde to the SSPX is to respond, "We know we are immoral and unfaithful and we revel in it." That is something they cannot allow.
I am sure the SSPX echoes our Lord, asking for the cup to pass them by, but how then will the scriptures be fulfilled?"
The "Una voce" speaks of Leo XIV as if he were a tyrant who should not be provoked. Not a compliment for the Holy Father.
Yes, remember the "disaster" that occurred when Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated bishops in 1988? : The Fraternity of St Peter was created, The Institute of Christ the King was Created, the Institute of the Good Shepherd was created, hundreds of diocesan Latin Masses were permitted in order to counter act the Masses of the SSPX, the SSPX had a growth boom of vocations and Mass attendees, the "excommunications" of the SSPX bishops were eventually lifted, the SSPX priests were able to hear confessions and conduct marriages, etc. I pray for a similar "disaster".
