The Provincial and the religious community of Sant Camillio de Lellis, would agree: LG 16 etc in Vatican Council II refer to invisible cases in 2026?, I asked a priest of the community yesterday. He refers to LG 16 etc as being a hypothetical and invisible case only in 2026.We agree. They would have to be asked directly he said.But even if they were, they could not say that LG 16 etc refers to a physically visible case of a non Catholic saved outside the Catholic Church in the present times.
What’s this about ‘invisible’ and ‘visible’ it may be asked ?
Whenever someone says that Vatican Council II is a rupture with Tradition, he means there are visible exceptions, for the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus ( EENS) of the Council of Florence 1442, which did not mention any exceptions. He means there are known people saved outside the Church and so the Athanasius Creed which says all need to be Catholic has exceptions. The ecumenism of return to the Catholic Church of the Syllabus of Pius IX, would also have been made obsolete, like Tradition. It would be the same also for all the Catechisms which say outside the Church there is no salvation.
But we now know that LG 8, 14, 16, UR 3, NA2 GS 22 etc in Vatican Council II refer to invisible cases in our human reality and so cannot be objective exceptions for the dogma EENS, the Athanasius Creed etc.
For me, and this priest, LG 8, 14, 16 etc are not exceptions for the exclusivist ecclesiology of the Roman Missal at the Latin Mass.
So Vatican Council II for us has the hermeneutic of continuity with Tradition. There are no exceptions for the ecclesiocentric concept of mission of St. Francis Xavier and the founders of the Jesuits.
The Provincial of the Sant Camillio de Lellis who is also the rector of the church on Via Salustiana, Rome would agree with me if asked. Over the years there has been no denial from Fr. Sergio Palumbo. He is not going to say that LG 16 refers to a physically visible case for him, otherwise he could suggest that his reality is different from the rest of the human race.
So we have the Camillians today not in schism with the founder of their community who believed outside the Church there is no salvation and there were no visible exceptions for the dogma EENS which he upheld.
It is the same with the priests of the Newman Center, at the Residenza Newman, alongside the Camillian church on Via Salustiana.
Cardinal Newman held the strict interpretation of the dogma EENS, like St. Camillio. He did not confuse what is implicit as being explicit.
Even the Minim Fathers of St. Francis of Paula, Rome, at the basilica Sant Andrea delle Fratte, Rome, cannot separate Jesus from the Catholic Church, which the Bible tells us is His Mystical Body.
We cannot say that only faith in Jesus is enough for salvation, without the necessity of membership in the Catholic Church, ‘the structure’, the hierarchical Church.
In 1Cor. 6:9, we are told that the effeminate (trans, queer), sodomists, adulterers, thieves … will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Even if they believe in Jesus but have not repented in the Sacrament of Confession they are oriented to Hell.
So only faith in Jesus is not enough for salvation, in general. It is necessary to be a Catholic and to die without mortal sin on the soul.
Even a Catholic in public mortal sin is not to receive the Eucharist since he is not in communion with Jesus and His Mystical Body the Catholic Church, the only Ark of Noah that saves in the Flood ( CCC 845).
For the Italian, Minim priest of St. Francis of Paula, Fr.Giacomo D’Orta,who is the parish priest at the basilica of Sant Andrea delle Fratte, Rome - Ad Gentes 7 says all need faith and baptism for salvation and invisible cases of LG 8, 14, 16, UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 etc are not objective exceptions for AG 7., the dogma EENS or the Athanasius Creed. There are no visible exceptions for an ecumenism of return to the Catholic Church of the Syllabus of Pius IX. Outside the Church there is no salvation, was the teaching of St. Francis of Paula, St. Alphonse Ratisbonne and visitors to the basilica, St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Terese of Liseax.
Humanly speaking we cannot know of any explicit exception for the Athanasius Creed etc. Tradition cannot be made obsolete with the irrational interpretation of Vatican Council II, with LG 16 visible.
Vatican Council II is aligned with Tradition. It supports the Latin Mass community, the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the St. Benedict Center in New Hampshire, USA. They interpret the Creeds, Councils and Catechisms with LG 16 invisible only.
No disrespect is intended but the LG 16 visible false premise, the error, is being made by the Italian Quirinale, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies in Italy.
