An estimated 2.3 million faithful gathered in Belém, Brazil, on 11 October for the 234th Círio de Nazaré, one of the world’s largest religious processions. Archbishop Bernard Longley of Birmingham, UK, has granted in-principle permission for two celebrations of Mass according to the medieval Sarum Use in his archdiocese. In a letter dated 6 October, the Archbishop approved the proposal, subject to further written permissions from the celebrating priests and those responsible for the venues. The Sarum Use is a medieval form of the Roman Catholic liturgy that developed in Salisbury, England, in the 11th century. Its name comes from Sarum, the Latin name for Salisbury. Similar to the Traditional Latin Mass, it has distinctive prayers, chants, vestments and a liturgical calendar. The Masses could take place in 2027.

He was born in Ireland soon after the middle of the sixth century, of parents who were conspicuous both for their piety and for their riches, and the rank which they held among the nobility. By them he was offered to God from his birth, and by their care was educated in the great monastery of Benchor, under the direction of the holy abbots Saint Comgal and Saint Columban. Studies, especially of sacred learning, flourished in this house, and Saint Gall was well versed in grammar, poetry, and the holy scriptures. When Saint Columban left Ireland, Saint Gall was one of those twelve who accompanied him into England, and afterwards into France, where they arrived in 585. “We cannot continue with the Novus Ordo – we cannot,” Bishop Athanasius Schneider told the Catholic Herald on October 13. He denounced “serious doctrinal defects” and “very clear Protestant tendencies” in the new Mass. Praising the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) as a “work of Divine Providence,” he accused the Vatican of a partial “hostile takeover” by forces seeking to transform Catholicism into a religion adapted to modern fashions. He compared the Church’s current doctrinal and liturgical crisis to the exile of the Avignon Papacy.
After the Ottaviani Intervention, who, back in 1969, denounced what Bishop Schneider today describes in the very same terms: "serious doctrinal defects" and "very clear protestant tendencies," I say to Bishop Schneider: It is never too late to convert to the Catholic Church and renounce the conciliar-synodal church.
