A statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Long Island, East Islip, New York, was vandalized over the weekend in what parishioners described as a shocking and heartbreaking act. According to reports, the head of the statue was cut off while a First Holy Communion ceremony was taking place inside the church. The incident is now being investigated by the Suffolk Police Hate Crimes Unit. Authorities confirmed that damage to a religious statue at the parish was reported around 11 a.m. on Saturday. One parishioner described the scene as “disturbing,” especially as it unfolded during a sacred day for children receiving their First Communion.
