A CATHOLIC FAMILY SAYS THEY LOST CUSTODY OF THEIR DAUGHTER
after refusing to affirm her new gender identity, and now they are fighting the state over testosterone, religious access and whether they can even SEE THEIR OWN CHILD.
Joseph and Arlene Kutzko say a school counselor began socially transitioning their then-15-year-old daughter without their knowledge. The parents refused to use a male name and pronouns because of their Catholic beliefs.
Massachusetts DCF eventually took custody amid a larger dispute that also involved allegations against the father, which the family says were later found unfounded.
The Kutzkos and their attorneys say their daughter was then placed in a boys' residential setting, denied regular Sunday Mass and given other medications while the state sought approval for testosterone. A judge has, for now, blocked the high-dose testosterone treatment.
Juvenile records are confidential, so the state has not publicly answered every allegation.
But the basic question is enormous: HOW did a disagreement between parents and a school over gender identity escalate into parents fighting the government for custody of their own teenager?
