Cardinal Pizzaballa Intervenes - Israeli Military Stormed Christian Village
Israeli military vehicles entered the village during preparations for the annual celebration honoring Our Lady and ordered organizers to leave the area.
Witnesses also claimed that a stun grenade was deployed during the incident.
The parish priest overseeing the event immediately contacted Church authorities. The matter was then elevated to Cardinal Pizzaballa, who spoke with Israeli officials and secured permission for the festival to proceed.
“Our fear this morning was that radical settlers would disrupt preparations for the Marian Festival. Instead, it was far more disturbing to watch the Israeli military intervene,” said Lex Pouliot of the Vulnerable People Project, who was present in Taybeh.
Taybeh, regarded as the last entirely Christian Palestinian town in the West Bank, has faced increasing tensions in recent years, including reports of settler encroachments and restrictions affecting local residents and religious life.
