Another Italian Archbishop Leads Homosexual Vigil
The event took place in the parish of Beata Vergine Maria delle Grazie all'Isolotto in Florence, a church located in the Isolotto district. This area is historically associated with ecclesiastical rebellion in the 1960s.
During the vigil, Archbishop Gambelli cited Acts 10:34-35: "God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him."
He presented the passage as a reflection on the dignity of every person and the need to reject prejudice and hatred.
The event featured personal testimonies from unrepentant homosexuals.
One speaker, Carlo, a 53-year-old homosexual from Florence, whined about experiences of bullying during his youth. He publicly confessed to sinning stubbornly with a man since twenty years but called this accomplice "a precious gift from God."
Another participant admitted that he is committing the same sin with a man for 18 years. He described feeling newly welcomed in the Church since Francis.
The vigil also included alleged prayers of repentance.
Participants asked forgiveness for "failures" to respond adequately to the suffering of homosexuals. The congregation responded with the refrain, "Lord, forgive us."
The homosex event in Florence is not an isolated scandal. The structure of the Italian bishops’ conference itself encouraged them during the Italian Synod. In 2026, such events are taking place in many cities, including Bergamo, Palermo, Milan, Trapani, Cremona, Parma, Fano, and Pesaro, some with the participation of the bishops.
