During Assumption Mass: Italian Cardinal Turns Cathedral Into Dance Floor (Video)
Naples Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, 77, Italy, presided Assumption in his cathedral with Kandy dances from Sri Lanka according to media reports.
The performance was attended by both Naples auxiliary bishops Lucio Lemmo, 74, and Gennaro Acampa, 75.
According to people familiar with the dance, the performance was poor. The drummer was out of rhythm and didn't even attempt to play a Vannama, the particular rhythm, associated with the dance.
The Kandy dance isn't associated with any religion but developed as an entertainment for the King of Kandy and his court. It serves only to distract the mind.
On Christmas 2018, Sepe transformed one of his churches into a restaurant.
