The risk of losing power is one that we face every day. If anything, that risk is greater today than it has ever been. Not only is there the potential for a major disaster, such as an EMP, but we are also faced with the fact that our electric infrastructure just isn’t up to the task. Much of the system is old and can’t handle the strain. We saw a very real example of this in February, when unexpectedly cold temperatures caused blackouts in Texas.
