"Rome Knows and Does Nothing": Bishop Schneider Holds Vatican Responsible for Protestantization
Talking to Gloria.tv on 24 April, Monsignor Schneider said that such 'blessings' amount to publicly endorsing a lifestyle contrary to nature, reason and the commandments of God: "To make this almost an obligation is mockery and blasphemy," he said, adding: "It is a grave sin for a cardinal to promote such a thing."
When asked about California Bishop Joseph Brennan's participation in an Anglican episcopal consecration on 18 April, Bishop Schneider described it as an ecclesiastical crime, as Monsignor Brennan took part in the simulation of an invalid ordination.
Monsignor Schneider pointed out a double standard within the Church: "A bishop who participates in a schismatic, heretical and invalid so-called episcopal consecration apparently remains unpunished. At the same time, a true Catholic and valid episcopal consecration in the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X is labelled a schismatic act."
Asked about the growing role of women at the altar, Bishop Schneider said that these women preside over rites such as funerals and baptisms, often dressed in albs and stole-like vestments. They even conduct Sunday services that closely resemble the Eucharist, except for the Eucharistic canon.
He warned that, over time, Catholics would lose the ability to distinguish between the Holy Mass and a general prayer service: "This is a real and clear Protestantisation of Catholic faith and life, tolerated by Rome."
Bishop Schneider repeatedly said that the Vatican is ultimately responsible because it is aware of the scandals yet does not take disciplinary action against the clerics involved.
He noted that such offences go unpunished while traditional Catholic communities are subjected to intense scrutiny: "If anything happens in traditional communities, it is examined with a magnifying glass and a microscope. If anything is too traditional, it is immediately suppressed and punished."
According to Bishop Schneider, the Church is undergoing Protestantisation at every level, adapting itself to the world, relativism and religious syncretism.
Regarding the crisis in the German Church, he said that Protestantisation originates from the powerful structures of the German Bishops' Conference and its officials themselves, and is being promoted on a broad scale. In other countries, however, the scandals remain rather isolated incidents.
