According to DioceseOfLansing.org (November 1; video below), Ostrowski woke up at night in despair on July 30, the feast-day of Blessed Capuchin Father Solanus Casey (+1957). He noticed a person in a brown robe sitting at his bed's headboard, believing it was his guardian angel.
The following night, the figure re-appeared. Now, Ostrowski understood that this was a saint. He started pleading for his life saying that he didn’t want his children to be raised without a father. No response. Ostrowski negotiated, “If you save me, I'll never use God's name in vain again.” At this point, the saint jumped up “like he won the Lotto” touching Ostrowski’s rib cage. “I felt very relaxed and comfortable, I knew I was saved,” Ostrowski said. Next day, his wife Kathleen showed him Casey's picture. Ostrowski recognised him.
However, on August 3, his condition deteriorated. He was placed on a ventilator and into an artificial coma. Two days later, he was airlifted to another hospital and survived. Within weeks, Ostrowski was able to walk again and to breathe on his own. The doctors called his recovery “a miracle.”
October 1, Ostrowski returned to his family. To be recognised as such, miracles must happen spontaneous and without a scientific explanation.
