Leo XIV’s June Consistory Only About War, AI and Synod
Notably absent from the agenda is the Church’s core business: the liturgy.
Leo XIV makes the Vatican all about politics
Leo XIV organised the consistory around four main themes, focusing on reconciliation in a world characterised by armed conflict, cultural divisions, and power politics.
The first session focuses on the international situation. Cardinals are invited to reflect on the suffering and tensions experienced by peoples and ecclesial communities.
The second and third sessions focus on 'Magnifica Humanitas', Leo XIV’s first encyclical.
One passage is particularly noteworthy. Participants are invited to consider how the Church can reaffirm the idea of overcoming the theory of the just war today.
The third session will address the reception of 'Magnifica Humanitas' in the dioceses.
The fourth session is about the [failed] Synod on Synodality. These talks will discuss the progress made in implementing the Synod, beginning with the recent document submitted to the 2027–2028 Synodal Assembly.
