Im Januar entschied der IGH über einstweilige Maßnahmen in dieser Angelegenheit, darunter dringende Maßnahmen zur Verhinderung von Völkermord und zur Sicherstellung der Versorgung der Enklave mit humanitärer Hilfe.

Tens of thousands of deaths and the humanitarian crisis in the enclave caused by Israel's strikes, prompted South Africa to file the lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Israel of genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Many countries around the world and several international organizations backed South Africa's initiative, among which are the following:
In Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Djibouti, Comoros, Namibia, Zimbabwe;
In the Middle East: the State of Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon;
In South and South East Asia: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives;
In South and Central America: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua, Venezuela;
In the Caribbean: Cuba, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines;
In Europe: Ireland, Slovenia;
International organizations: the African Union, the Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement.
In January, the ICJ ruled on provisional measures on the matter, which included take urgent measures to prevent acts of genocide and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
In early March, the African nation returned to the court to request further interim measures.
