Leo XIV Appoints Bishop Who Assisted During Strickland’s Removal

Today, Leo XIV has appointed Monsignor John Gomez as Bishop of Diocese of Laredo, USA.

Born in Colombia in 1975, Monsignor Gomez is a priest of the Diocese of Tyler, a canon lawyer trained at the Gregorian in Rome.

He has little discernible public media footprint: no notable interviews, personal social-media presence, podcasts, or published ideological essays appear readily available online.

Bishop Joseph Strickland appointed him in 2015 as vicar general of Tyler, Texas.

The interesting wrinkle is that Monsignor Gomez remained after Bishop Strickland was removed: He served as delegate of the apostolic administrator from 2023–2025, then vicar general again under Bishop Gregory Kelly from 2025.

CatholicVote reported in June 2023 that Monsignor Gomez helped organize meetings between the Vatican visitators and diocesan clergy, religious, and laity during the Apostolic Visitation.

The Apostolic Visitation was requested by the new prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, then-Archbishop Robert Francis Prevost (appointed in January 2023).

And, since modernism is the scynthesis of all heresies, it's a nasty cabal of heretics.

Evidence is pointing to a cabal of nasty modernist

Sandy Barrett shares this

Gomez was vicar general in Tyler under Strickland, but was nevertheless the one who arranged clergy from the diocese to meet with Vatican investigators sent to assess Strickland’s leadership.

Rewarding the lapdog. Careerism at its most flagrant.
