Dean Of St Mary's Cathedral Hanged Himself

Late Canon Michael McCoy, 57, the Dean of St Mary's Cathedral in Newcastle, England, hanged himself in April 2021 after he learned of allegations made against him to police, reports Bbc.com (May 5).
Officers invited the priest 6 April, 2021 to a “voluntary interview.” Angela Richardson, the safeguarding coordinator for Hexham-Newcastle Diocese visited McCoy and found him "visibly shaken, he was upset, he was shocked."

On April 10, after McCoy didn’t answer a male contact person, this man attended McCoy’s Cathedral apartment and found him hanged. There was no note. Mobile phone and tablet were factory reset, so nothing could be retrieved from them.

Medical records showed McCoy had an anxiety disorder but no a history of suicidal thoughts.
