Arlington Carmelite Nuns Kick Out Bishop, Adopt Roman Rite, Conncect To Viganò
• The statement speaks of unprecedented interference, intimidation, aggression, private and public humiliation, and spiritual manipulation by Fort Worth Bishop Michael Olson.
• Olson shouts at the nuns in private and in public and violates their enclosure through his officials.
• The Chapter expresses its complete confidence in the personal and moral integrity of its Mother Prioress.
• The nuns understand that Olson has the power to influence the outcome of their appeals “beyond anything we can match.”
• The nuns say that they no longer recognise Olson's authority and can have no further relations with him.
• Olson and his officials are banned from entering the convent or having any contact with the nuns.
• These measures will remain in place until Olson repents, personally apologises to the nuns and agrees to make appropriate public reparation.
• The Chapter has also decided to celebrate Mass, the Divine Office and all sacraments and other rites according to the original Discalced Carmelite usages.
• This is called a positive recognition that has developed in the community over time.
• They quote Benedict XVI (7 July 2007), “What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful.”
In addition to their text, the nuns released a second statement from Archbishop Carlo Viganò, asking to support them.
