Bishop Santarsiero Exposes His Alleged Victims Before All Priests

Bishop Antonio Santarsiero of Huacho, Peru, convened all his clergy last Tuesday in a parish hall and publicly identified his two alleged victims, reports InfoVaticana.com.

Furthermore, he asked the priests to sign a document supporting his innocence, which carries no probative value.

The bishop stepped aside last Friday as Secretary General of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference while the case is investigated.

The Church’s legal framework runs counter to the bishop’s actions. The motu proprio Vos estis lux mundi requires the protection and confidentiality of reports and forbids interference in investigations.

The two alleged victims are a priest who lived with Santarsiero and a former seminarian. Both accuse him of homosexual misconduct and psychological manipulation.
