Francis in Corsica: A Million Euros Needed?

According to an estimate, the single day that Francis will spend in Corsica, France, in the diocese of Ajaccio, will cost between 500,000 and 1.2 million euros, according to the diocese of Ajaccio.

The Catholic Church in France is very poor and receives no money from the state.

Francis' visit will take place on 15 December. He will arrive at around 9am, give the closing speech at the useless conference on 'Popular Religiousness in the Mediterranean' and preside at a Eucharist.

He will leave at around 6pm after a brief meeting with Emmanuel Macron, the head of the French regime.

The diocese of Ajaccio (277,000 Catholics, 56 diocesan priests) is launching an appeal for donations to finance Francis's escapade.

The estimated cost is based on what the diocese of Marseille will spend when Francis visits in September 2023. While the Vatican and the French government will cover part of the cost of organising the trip, the bulk will fall on the shoulders of the diocese.

Francis' two-day visit to Marseille in September 2023 cost €2.3 million and left a €500,000 hole in the diocese's coffers.

If he is so very insistent that an Apostolic Journey to France, the Eldest Daughter of the Church, must be made at this time, such resources as are being expended for this meaningless trip would have been better and more appropriately applied to his personal attendance and Papal participation at the rededication ceremonies for Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, as befits the universal supremacy of his Holy Office and Sacred Ministry. Not for some inane so-called “inter-religious” conference, void of any sacred or sacral significance or content. Such impractical and useless acts as this, needlessly organized and promoted by the Vatican, are as unspeakably bewildering as they are embarrassing….leading one to pose as a question the euphemism that today’s youth are so oft heard to profanely say: “WTF?”

He could have sent a letter to be read at the conference for much less. But the man could not care less about budgets, or his flock either.

Well, the world calls him a rock star...Just one of his concerts.

He's already caused financial problems in the Vatican. Now in his generosity, with true missionary spirit, he wants France to enjoy the same problems.
