Nigeria Violence Is “Deliberate, Organized Killing of Christians,” Bishop Says

The violence in Nigeria’s Southern Taraba State is a “systematic killing of Christians,” Bishop Mark Maigida Nzukwein of Wukari told AciAfrica.org on February 15.
He described the continuous killings as genocide against Christians. “It is deliberate, organized killing of Christians across the board,” he said.
Bishop Maigida argued that if genocide is defined as the intentional and systematic extermination of a particular group, then the situation affecting Christians in Nigeria fits that description.
“The target actually is Christians. If other people who are non-Christians are affected, it may be collateral damage. But the organized plan is targeted at Christians and their communities across Nigeria,” Bishop Maigida said.
The roots of the unrest trace to the early 2000s. However, the most recent wave of violence in the State has been particularly devastating, with armed Fulani militia groups repeatedly invading communities with impunity.
