Medical Professor Admonishes Francis
Di Marzo is a pneumologist and former lecturer and member of the Academic Senate of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome.
He describes Francis' comments as destructive to the Christian faith.
Professor Di Marzo tells Francis: "I have often read the Gospels since my youth, as you also recommend: I have never found in them the words you spoke in that speech".
"On the contrary," the professor continued: "Jesus' statements on the exclusivity of his mission resound powerfully in the Word of God".
Di Marzo quotes Christ in John 14:6 ("I am the way") and John 10:11 ("I am the good shepherd, the others who came before me were not heard by the sheep").
He does not deny that all the world's religions are "worthy of respect", but only the Catholic religion achieves true union with the one God, our Father, whom Christ has made known to us.
Speaking of practising Catholics, he admonishes Francis that "we want the Vicar of Christ to follow the way of Jesus and to urge many others not to separate from it".
A few years ago, however, Francis appropriately removed the title "Vicar of Christ" from the Pontifical Yearbook.
Di Marzo therefore urges Francis to restore the title "Vicar of Christ": "Don't relegate it to the historical titles, to oblivion, as if you were no longer the Vicar of Christ."
But what's the point of restoring the title if Francis doesn't live up to it, and instead continues to contradict Christ?
