Gänswein Clarifies: No Travel Ban, No Post Offered
Their reports appeared in the context of an event with Gänswein in Madrid planned for Wednesday evening, but cancelled at short notice apparently due to pressure from Francis' party.
ReligionDigital.org had claimed that Francis had "expressly forbidden" Gänswein to travel abroad without permission from church authorities. This is "completely inaccurate" and "simply an invention" Gänswein denied. There is no such prohibition, he said.
VidaNuevaDigital.com had reported that Gänswein had rejected alleged offers from Francis to head a German or Italian diocese, demanding an important position in the Curia. This “poker game” of Gänswein prompted Francis to send him to Germany without any post. These allegations are according to Gänswein "totally inaccurate" and "grave slander."
InfoVaticana.com (October 23) adds that Gänswein has legally obtained a counterstatement from VidaNuevaDigital.com.
