New Trend: First Communion Children Distribute Communion

Erlbach parish, Germany, celebrated an Open-Air First Communion for ten children, fittingly in front of the local Saint Corona chapel. Erlbach belongs to Passau diocese which is headed by “conservative” Bishop Stefan Oster.

The diocesan Bistumsblatt (July 19, Scan below) writes that the children received Holy Communion and then distributed Communion to their respective families.

In order to obey the coronavirus regime, the families were sitting separated from each other. The hostes for each family were previously put on plates and covered with a cloth and red stones to prevent them from flying away in the wind.

The Really Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion ain't wearing his mask. Just sayin' ...and what's with the maraschino cherries? :P

The article states they are " red stones". They look like those delicious, tiny baby red potatoes to me. Around the size of a quarter to a half dollar. I had some couple days ago , they are amazing.
On another note, if the German prelates spent just 25% of thier time trying to follow Catholic Dogma instead of wasting vast amounts of it coming up with novelty upon novelty, they might,
by the Grace of God, drag themselves out of this foul quagmire they are firmly entrenched in.

...and today GTV discovers Novella Nurney is fluent in German. Okay, time to rephrase my question. "What's with the red stones?" When did "red stones" become part of Communion?
Now for the other important issue... how did Novella's prepare those baby red potatoes? And was it for a parish first communion event? :D
