Catholic Marriages in the USA Have Declined by 60% Since 2000

Catholic marriages dropped from approximately 267,000 in 2000 to 111,718 in 2024 — a decline of almost 60%, according to data reported by EWTN News on 31 January from the Official Catholic Directory.

Compared with 1970, when there were around 426,000 Catholic weddings, today's figures show a decline of around 75%, despite the growth in the Catholic population.

This phenomenon has been evident for decades. A similar headline was published in June 2011 when a study by Our Sunday Visitor found that the number of weddings celebrated in American Catholic churches had dropped by 60%. At that time, there was 'a shift from 8.6 marriages per 1,000 US Catholics in 1972 to 2.6 marriages per 1,000 Catholics in 2010'.

Men's liberation and women's liberation are both falling farther and farther away and choosing lifestyles against ALMIGHTY GOD and His WAY, TRUTH, and LIFE.

The result of the Bishops and their dereliction of duty. Woe to them!

Women's liberation.

Moreover, keep in mind that many of those Catholic marriages today are being preformed by priests in the SSPX.

Too bad. SSPX = same diabolic modern rebellious "liberation" spirit as feminism. "Resist!"

Divorce, birth control, the sexual revolution, and later on abortion have contributed to this. The new code of canon law put the nail in the coffin.

Notice the year it started to decline 1970, just 5 years after Vatican II.

...and the year the Novus Ordo Mass was promulgated.
