Leo XIV Praises Tucho’s Most Controversial Documents
Leo XIV made positive mention of several documents published by Tucho “over the past two years”. Tucho was installed as prefect in December 2023.
According to Leo XIV, the strongly criticized texts of Tucho provide “pastoral and theological guidance on questions that are often very delicate.”
Tucho's Direction Began Fights
Among the documents mentioned, Leo XIV recalled what he considered “the principal ones.” They include:
- the controversial Declaration Dignitas infinita (2 April 2024) that groups intrinsically evil acts (abortion, euthanasia) together with social issues (war, poverty, immigration) under a single “human dignity” framework.
- Norms for proceeding in the discernment of alleged supernatural phenomena (17 May 2024) which remove the category of a formal recognition of supernatural origin of apparitions, allowed "pastoral" promotion of doubtful phenomena and centralized authority in Rome, reducing local episcopal discretion.
Leo XIV claimed that these norms have made it possible to "resolve" cases such as the "spiritual experience" of Medjugorje.
- Note Mater Populi fidelis (4 November 2025) against Marian titles such as Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix of all graces. According to Leo XIV, this confused note “offers precise and important clarifications for Mariology.”
Leo XIV also cited Gestis verbisque, a technical note clarifying the validity of the sacraments; Antiqua et nova, a reflection on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence; and Una caro, a doctrinal note reaffirming monogamy.
"Tucho Spoke Clearly"
Speaking of all these (thankfully already forgotten) documents, Leo XIV praised them, saying that they were "certainly of great benefit to the spiritual growth of the Holy and Faithful People of God” and they "offer the faithful a prompt and clear word from the Church, especially with regard to the many new phenomena that are emerging on the stage of history.”
Leo XIV further believes that the texts provide "precious guidance to Bishops in the exercise of their pastoral action, as well as to theologians in their service of study and evangelization.”
