Tragic Deaths of Two Franciscan University Students

Two students from Franciscan University of Steubenville, USA — Luke Reimer (20) of Indian Shores, Florida, and Mary Mich (20) of Downingtown, Pennsylvania — were found dead inside a vehicle shortly after noon on Monday in a parking lot near St. Agnes Residence Hall on the campus in Steubenville, Ohio.

Steubenville police responded after someone requested a welfare check and discovered them in the car.

Malfunction Suspected

Early indicators from police and the university suggest no foul play is suspected. Authorities have said a possible cause may be a vehicle exhaust or engine malfunction while the two were sitting together talking in a running car.

No official cause of death has yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

University Response

Franciscan University has expressed deep sorrow, canceled campus events for the evening, and is providing counseling and prayer opportunities for students and the community.
